BPAA Tennis 2017

The 2017 BPAA Tennis Tournament was held on 9th October with ten pairs battling it out for the trophy. There were a number of new faces taking part for the first time, and with high expectations we were set for one of the most competitive tournaments in recent years. The tournament took the form of two ‘round robin’ groups, with the top two from each group going through to semi-finals, and then a final. Due to the number of participants, 2017 also saw the introduction of a plate competition for those finishing lower in each of the two groups.

Following a number of evenly matched, and some less so, games in the round robin stages, the competition progressed through to the semi-finals where Kevin Bressington and Jim Wilson of Watts progressed through to facing last years’ reigning champions, Dan St Quintin (Beach Baker) and James Marsh (Cushman & Wakefield). In a final that produced some very high quality tennis, albeit with some questionable techniques and fortunate net cords, Kevin and Jim forced the match into a tie-break in which they ultimately prevailed as overall champions.

So, congratulations go to Kevin Bressington and Jim Wilson of Watts for taking the overall trophy, and also to Jack Bonnick and Will Botsford of Hartnell Taylor Cook who prevailed in the plate competition.

Thanks also to this years’ sponsors 21st Century Building Services, and we look forward to another equally competitive tournament in 2018!
